Coaches and Our Health

The other day, I finally decided to weigh myself. I weighed in at 194.4lbs. New goal, weigh in the 180’s before August 11. The immediate question on my mind is not, “why don’t I take better care of myself.” Rather it’s “why is it coaches seem to take better care of their athletes than themselves.” Maybe I’m wrong, but I would love for others to chime in. So I want to reach out to all gathering ideas on the subject and how we can change our actions to better portray the things we teach. ...

My Working Life

People have asked me, why do you work so much? I didn’t really understand what they meant until this last year. Throughout the year, I work 3 different jobs which range, at times, from 5:30am until 8:00pm. Why do you work so much? I don’t do it for the pay, I don’t do it for the recognition. I do it because I want to pay off my bills. I’ve worked the same base full-time job for nearly 3 years, and honestly it’s helped me pay off my debt better than I thought it would. I’ve had some excellent situations though that allowed me to pay off 2 student loans within a year of graduating. ...

2011-2012 Season Recap

It’s simple, Coaches and athletes have to have goals. However, you have to make sure that the athletes and coaching staff buy into those goals and are all on the same page too. How do you do that? How does it work? What does it look like before/during/after? Well, this season was all about that. This season was a different monster; it was something I wasn’t quite ready for. I was responsible for practice development, discipline and general team maintenance. It was new and I was afraid of it, but I know that it helped me grow further than I thought possible in 5 months. ...

My 2012 Resolutions

I honestly can’t remember the last time I actually wanted to make a New Year’s resolution. However, I am wanting to better my life and others around me so here it is; making it 100% public for the first time. First: Eat out less and stop buying microwaveable/prepackaged frozen foods. Second: Work out more. (The typical New Year’s Resolution, right?) Third: Take care of myself and things I care about first and make more time for these things. ...

I am a failure

There are two Michael Jordan quotes that truly are amazing. Actually, he has quite a few quotes on this topic; the two I am going to focus on are some of my favorites. I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. - Michael Jordan ...

Taking Risks; Meeting Opportunity

Recently I was talking to an online acquaintance regarding the process of making tough decisions. My question to you is why are you afraid to take the risks that will make you happy? People are Safe You know what will make you happy don’t you? So why aren’t you doing everything you can to do it? I’ve seen in my life that I need encouragement do try something different. When I saw the coaching position open I was hesitant to apply, why? I knew that I had the knowledge of the sport and a want to coach. I was afraid of change and rejection. ...

Water Under the Pier

This image was captured while on vacation at Ft Myers Beach. Sarah and I were walking along the beach to this pier on our second to last morning and I decided to capture this as a Hand-Held HDR photo. All things considered, I really like the way it turned out. Not sure how I was able to capture the waves, but I’m glad that I did.

Finding Life's Silver Lining

I did something out of the ordinary the other day. I saw something that caught my eye (and had my camera) and decided to stop on the side of the road and snap a photo. It’s a reminder to all of us to stop and take in the moments of our lives and find the best out of any situation.
